Scotland's farmers' markets are to receive more than £200,000 funding over three years.
The Scottish Government have confirmed £120,000 to develop and grow markets around the country with an extra £97,000 to help individual markets.
It is hoped that the support will increase the number of farmers involved in markets, boost sales of local produce and expand the number of venues across the country, including making markets a more permanent shopping fixture.
The additional support will be taken forward by a new partnership managed by the Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society (SAOS), Scottish Food Quality Certification (SFQC) and Scottish Agricultural College (SAC), with the Scottish Association of Farmers Markets and FARMA being closely involved.
Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead said:
"The popularity of farmers markets has exploded recently, empowering farmers and giving them direct access to their customers. They have the potential to become a focal point for Scottish produce and ensuring we maximise what they have to offer is a priority for the Scottish Government.
"Through the national food and drink policy we have the tools to create a food and drink revolution in Scotland. Through greater collaboration and co-operation on the ground, we will achieve a healthier, wealthier, more environmentally sustainable Scotland.
"The partnership announced today strikes the right balance and will get the key players around the same table. I hope to see the group assisting in the development of Scottish food, and helping consumers connect with their local producers."
