FARMA members' Essington Fruit Farm were delighted to welcome the Hairy Bikers last week on their search for the best food in Staffordshire.

The two leather-clad motor-cyclists arrived on the hottest day of the year to film part of their new series to be aired this Autumn, which will focus on regional foods.

The bikers turned up for gooseberries and broad beans to accompany the free-range poultry they had bought in nearby Lichfield, only to be lured into the strawberry fields by owner Richard Simkin and sold a packet of the farm's smoked streaky bacon.

They then moved on to Lichfield farmers' market where they 'cooked Essington's bacon' and pronounced it the best they'd ever had - cue phone calls to the farm shop from bacon-loving market shoppers!

Richard commented "They were very pleasant, down to earth chaps and it should be an interesting programme. You can picture the customers, all reaching for their mobile phones - one lady broke the speed limit to get here, only to pass them in the lane outside."
