CLAYDON CHRISTMAS TREE FARM

Claydon Christmas Tree Farm is based in Steeple Claydon, between Buckingham and Bicester, approximately 20 minutes from Aylesbury. Claydon Christmas Tree Farm is managed by husband and wife team, Joseph and Ingrid Hodges. Being a family business that is run from our home, we take a real pride in the service that we give our customers.

We are primarily a working arable farm but decided to combine a farmer's enthusiasm for growing things with his wife's passion for Christmas. We aim to supply beautiful, freshly cut trees at sensible prices.

We planted our own trees in April 2010 and continue to plant Christmas trees every year. We began selling a few of our own trees in 2014 and hope to continue each year. The trees that we currently sell have been carefully selected from a farm in the Welsh Mountains. They will have been cut only a few days before you purchase them and are from 3ft to 14ft tall, potted or fresh cut and all with that wonderful Christmas fragrance.

We have a beautiful team of Father Christmas' real reindeer for you to meet when you buy a Christmas Tree.

We are open from Saturday 28th November 2015 from 10am and everyday Monday to Friday 10am until 6pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am until 5pm until all of our Christmas Trees have been sold. Please bear in mind that after the weekend of 20th December 2015 our Christmas tree stocks may be very low. We will not close before Sunday 20th December 2015.

Most major credit cards are accepted.

Opening Times Monday - Friday 10am until 6pm Saturday and Sunday 10am until 5pm

Dancer was born in Spring 2011 and Cupid was born in Spring 2013. Dasher and Comet are castrated bulls, Vixen and Dancer are cows. Cupid is an entire bull.

Dasher and Comet came to live on our farm when they were 8 months old and have now lived with us for four years. Over the years all of our reindeer have been handled and trained with love and patience, this is reflected in their calm, relaxed and inquisitive temperaments when they meet the public either at home or when we take them out to special events during Christmas. All of the reindeer live in a lovely paddock at the bottom of our garden. The cheeky five are favourites with all of the family and are hand fed daily by my six, five and two year old sons!

Our reindeer were bred in Finland by the indigenous Sami's until they came to live with us here in Steeple Claydon. They are currently in training for Father Christmas' British leg of his famous trip around the world on Christmas Eve.

When you buy your Christmas tree, remember to come and say hello to them. They will be inside the Christmas barn amongst the Christmas trees.

Please note that it is not always possible for all five reindeer to be in their pen inside the Christmas barn at all times.

Welfare

They are registered with DEFRA and have their very own identity numbers and ear tags. They and are treated like royalty and cared for in the best possible way. We even import Lichen directly from Finland to ensure that we provide them with the most natural diet that we can.

All reindeer should have bright eyes, well cared for feet and a shiny coat. At home and at events, they should be relaxed enough to lie down, eat and drink.

The reindeer adapt extremely well to the UK climate; although able to withstand the extremes of temperature in the Arctic Circle, they moult their winter coat in the spring and have a much finer summer coat. They are used to similar Summer's to ours with temperatures reaching approximately 28°C . Our reindeer have 24 hour access to grazing and shelter, allowing them to keep out of direct heat, flies and rain when necessary.

Should you have any questions about our reindeer please feel free to ask us and we will do our best to answer them for you.

Reindeer Hire

Our reindeer are available to hire, however because we take their welfare extremely seriously and they are our family pets, much loved by everyone, bookings are limited. Please contact us early to avoid disappointment.
