Lotmead Farm

Lotmead Farm is near Swindon in Wiltshire. Although diversifying into PYO crops back in 1983 Lotmead is still very much a working dairy farm, milking 250 cows on an extensive grazing system. Always innovative, they were one of the first PYO units to change over totally to table top
strawberry production. They now grow over six kilometres of table tops and use sixty day plants as well as ever bearers to ensure a constant supply throughout the summer. Raspberries are another important crop, where Gordon has moved totally into long cane production and there are also a wide range of vegetables grown.

“I have visited this PYO over many years and am delighted with how it has evolved from being a very basic rustic PYO into a professional small rustic PYO offering quality soft fruit and a small selection of vegetable products. Well-trained, efficient, courteous staff who went out of their way to be informative, helpful and friendly.”

This is of course much more than just a pick your own farm, being Swindon’s largest leisure attraction during the summer months. Events include “Horses and Hawks” vintage steam engines, rural crafts and vintage vehicles. The link to the countryside is also very strong and customers cannot fail to feel that they are on a real working farm. A wetland habitat with a bird hide is part of a farm walk and customers can watch as 250 well behaved cows are milked by one person.

As judge Gordon Wilson said “I have visited this PYO over many years and am delighted to see how it has evolved. The staff really went out of their way to be helpful, friendly and informative.”
