Hanley Farm Shop has only been open for a little over two years and is situated on an organic farm in Gloucestershire. Having started the conversion to organic status in 1999, the farm now comprises of over 500 acres with 200 prize winning dairy cows and 50 Hereford cross cattle.
Hanley has already won many accolades, including two Great Taste Awards. The resident chefs repare all the food sold through their cafe and the butchery team prepare all the meat on site. They even roduce their own award winning cave aged cheddar !
“This is a great example of a real farm shop, producing their own beef and cheese and promoting local produce to the hilt. The shop is beautifully and efficiently laid out and the staff is both friendly and informed. A real credit to FARMA.”Sally Jackson
The judges enjoyed seeing the huge range of products on display from local artisan producers. Well over 90% of the turnover at Hanley comes from themselves, or from within 30 miles, supporting many other specialist businesses.
The connection with the customers goes even further through their landshare scheme. Behind the Farm Shop local people are encouraged to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers, often selling them through the Farm Shop. The connection between the production of real food and the end consumer couldn’t be stronger.
